Building for the future of learning
Toorak College . Swift Science + Technology Centre
by McBride Charles Ryan
The Swift Science + Technology Centre is a multi-level educational facility at Toorak College's Mount Eliza campus, designed by McBride Charles Ryan to provide dedicated environments for science, technology and collaborative learning. The building incorporates specialist science laboratories, a DIGI Zone, conference and boardroom facilities, informal learning areas and a central atrium, creating a flexible environment that supports both structured teaching and collaborative study. Its contemporary form and material palette respond to the established architecture and landscape of the school while introducing a distinctly new presence to the campus.
LBA Construction Group delivered the project across a range of highly specialised spaces, requiring detailed coordination of architectural, acoustic, laboratory and services requirements. Bespoke elements include patterned acoustic ceilings, curved plywood walls, spotted gum timberwork, detailed brickwork and integrated learning spaces throughout the central circulation areas. The project brings together complex technical requirements with a high level of architectural detailing, creating a robust and adaptable facility designed to support the school's evolving approach to STEM education.
