Where Home becomes Museum
Lyon Housemuseum
by Lyons
The Lyon Housemuseum brings together two traditionally distinct worlds — the private home and the public museum — into a singular architectural experience. Designed by Lyons, the Kew residence was conceived to house Corbett and Yueji Lyon’s growing collection of contemporary Australian art, while allowing the collection to become part of everyday life. The result is a home that shifts constantly between gallery and residence, where art, architecture and daily life exist in dialogue.
For LBA, the project demanded a high level of precision in delivering an unconventional residential typology across its 1,060m² built area and 24-month construction program. Complex spatial relationships, bespoke detailing and integrated joinery were carefully resolved to support both the private functions of a family home and the requirements of a working museum.
